Frightful October Horror Movie Picks – DAY 20

October 20, 2013

Screen shot 2013-10-20 at 7.17.10 PM

“Halloween III: Season of the Witch”

I found myself watching this late last night, and I seriously under-appreciated this movie back in the day. It was probably four or five years ago when I revisited this movie after hating it at an early age, and knowing more about the history of this film I’ve come to like it more and more as I re-watch it. This is a Halloween movie I can see myself watching every year, in fact I usually do.

The first and only sequel in the “Halloween” franchise to NOT feature Michael Meyers. Why? Because John Carpenter never intended the series to be focusing on Michael. It was originally conceived as a planned anthology of Halloween horror, and I must say, that’s a greater concept for a film series than playing out as a one note song. It’s a shame critics and earlier fans didn’t accept this (then) new concept. had the third entry been successful, the fourth would have been a ghost story. First a 2-part slasher, then a modernized-witchcraft theme, then leading to ghosts? The skies could’ve been the limit for Carpenter & Debra Hill. But alas, the people chose Michael Meyers over some new and innovative. Tragic.
