“The Mist”

Many of you may be aware that Stephen King adaptations are split between a complete hit or an utter miss. Frank Darabont has successfully adapted two of his most well respected non-horror novels, “The Shawshank Redemption” and “The Green Mile”, both hailed as critical giants of their time. So, when it was announced that Frank would be directing his first horror film, a Stephen King based horror film, my attention was garnered with interest.

A normal day becomes a drastically weird change for the entire world as a blanket of mist covers the American country side, housing nightmarish creatures that exist only in our nightmares. A man and his son, salvage out in a local grocery store with a bunch of the local towns folk. However, the true defining scares do not come from the inter-dimensional creatures within the mist, but the monsters hidden inside the mind of every frightened human being in that store. People begin to question faith, themselves and each other, leading to horrifying outcomes, and an ending NO ONE will see coming! “The Mist” is one damn good horror movie, well written/directed, and a cast that is utilized so perfectly. Marcia Gay Harden steals the film as a maniacal religious nut.

Written & Directed by: Frank Darabont

Starring: Thomas Jane, Marcia Gay Harden, Laurie Holden, Andre Braugher, Toby Jones, William Sadler, and Jeffrey DeMunn

“The Mist” is available on iTunes.
