MONDAY STREAMING – Elmo! Spielberg’s Stories! The Doctor Returns! And…Larry Sanders?

March 5, 2012

  • “Being Elmo” – The Grand Jury winner at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival is FINALLY available for streaming. “Being Elmo” is a fantastic portait of Kevin Clash. Following his early days doing puppet shows for family and friends, to his rise up the ladder of Jim Henson’s Muppet Studios, to creating one of the most beloved (puppet) TV character of all time. Check out my full review here.
  • “Religulous” – Do you believe in God? Buddha? Allah? Alien Souls? Or Nothing? Watch Bill Maher discuss what it all means and why do people believe in such things. Directed by “Borat” helmer Larry Charles, but whether you love or hate Bill Maher, he’s quite funny in this film, and he does bring up some interesting points.
  • “Cave of Forgotten Dreams” – I never miss a Werner Herzog film, and in this spellbinding documentary, Herzog offers an unprecedented examination of the Chauvet Cave, a cavern in southern France that contains the oldest human-painted images yet to be found on Earth.

  • “The Larry Sanders Show” – In this hit HBO comedy series, Garry Shandling stars as Larry Sanders, the host of a late-night talk show. Larry brings the laughs for his television audience with help from his sidekick, Hank — but Larry’s private life behind the scenes is funnier.
  • “Amazing Stories” – I couldn’t be more greatful that Steven Spielberg’s “Amazing Stories” has FINALLY hit the streaming-verse! I remember watching old reruns of this series, and it always captured my imagination. This glossy anthology series presents supernatural tales of horror, fantasy and science fiction that frequently involve disturbing visions, unexplainable miracles and unlikely heroes. Episode directors include the likes of Clint Eastwood, Martin Scorsese and Robert Zemeckis.

  • “Doctor Who: Season 6” – Bow ties are cool, and so is Matt Smith’s 11th version of the famous Doctor. Both Season 6A & 6B are available for streaming! Which is good, ’cause I missed out on season 6B, time to watch Who’ll Kill Hitler (Doctor fans will get that).
  • “The Lincoln Lawyer” – Tasked with defending rich lothario Louis Roulet, who’s been charged with assault, lawyer Mick Haller finds himself and his family in danger when he deduces the truth behind this and former cases he’s worked on. Matthew McConaughey actually gives a riveting performance, many of the supporting players are fantastic here. The story is a little muddle by the third act, but it’s a good watch.
  • “Swimming with Sharks” – Look out “Office Space”, before you came along there was “Swimming with Sharks”! It’s mean, it’s dark, it’s cruel, and fuck it, the movies pretty damn funny (in a sick twisted way). Love Kevin Spacey in this movie! He’s the ultimate evil boss.
