For the love of chicken dancing, when are we getting an “Arrested Development” movie!?!

July 29, 2011

It’s been five long years since “Arrested Development” aired the…well, airways on Fox. It was a cult defining comedy series, the mixture of dry sense of humor, double entendres, and screwball physical comedy. The show has earned it’s greater love & following with the help of DVD sales and the recent syndication on IFC. So, it’s not completely difficult to know who Tobias, GOB, Michael, George Michael, George Sr, and many more are. But, show creator Mitchell Hurwitz has been toying with our emotions for the last few years about the possibility of a movie to reunite all our favorite characters.

The problem is, everyone is saying the samething! “Mitch is a smart guy, he’s working on a script”, “The script is being worked”, “We should have a script soon”, blah blah blah! We’ve heard this before! Lets go back and take a look at the history of all this hulabaloo:

December 2008:

It was said that Will Arnett & Michael Cera didn’t want to do a movie, it was later debunked by Mitchell that Will was all for a movie, but Cera wasn’t as much.

February 2009:

Cera reconsidred and basically said he would sign on. YEAH GEORGE MICHAEL IS (SOMEWHAT) IN!!!

April 2010:

Jason Bateman has been the one cast member who has never doubted that “Arrested Development” will be happening. Which can be a bad thing, when he keeps promising fans a film, but never delivers. He even took defence for the fans against David Cross’ pessimistic comments about the potential movie:

“David says that it’s dead, but it’s not dead at all. Mitch Hurwitz is busy shooting a new pilot with Will Arnett, and perhaps when they’re done shooting and editing and he’s delivered that, perhaps he’ll jump into writing the script. Once the script is done, it goes to the studio and they decide if it’s a script they want to make, and the actors will decide if they want to be in it.”

Which really doesn’t tell us anything, does it? Oh, and that series Hurwitz did with Arnett…tanked, so there should be no excuse now for holding the movie off.

January 2011:

Executive Producer & the Narrator himself, Ron Howard FINALLY speaks:

“All kidding aside he’s [Mitchell’s] been very involved in his television company and I think it’s reached a point where he now has a window to really focus on “Arrested Development” and give it the time and attention that it really needs.”

Well isn’t that peachy Opie.

February 2011:

David Cross states in an interview regarding the status of the project:

“I have no idea, there’s 9 people involved with the project, I’ll believe it when I see it.”

Someone’s grumpy.

May 2011:

Hurwitz speaks, which seemed to raise some minimal amount of hope:

“We’ve started that process and it is our sincere hope to shoot it this year and get it out this year. That’s what we’re hoping, but a lot of things have to fall into place for that to happen. I don’t like to toy with the affections of our fans. They’ve been so supportive and we’re so grateful, so I kind of hate to answer the question until I can say, ‘Yep, we’ve shot it, it opens next week.'”

Well at least he knows how we feel.

July 2011:

During a press tour for his upcoming dark indie comedy, Jeffrey Tambor stated that the film is all going straight, everyone’s on board, and Mitchell, with a few others are writing.

Henry Winkler also said that typical answer in a recent interview:

“Here’s what I know, I know Mitch is dying to make the movie. He’s working very hard on figuring it out.”

SERIOUSLY THIS IS INSANE!!!!! Will it ever happen? All we can do now is pray to the movie Gods and watch reruns on Netflix. When the day comes, when those camera’s begin to roll, I’ll chicken dance non-stop for a week!
